On a Day of Record Rainfall --- Large Crowd Shows for Walk the Plank Party

A rum and rain soaked but highly enthusiastic piratical crowd gathered to watch Mayor Morgan McPherson being sent in to Davy Jones’ Locker (the Key West Bight) He was joined by City Manager Jim “Dagwood” Scholl and Schooner Wharf co-owner Evalena Worthington. The trio all walked the plank off Key West’s flagship Schooner Western Union to raise over $1,600 for the Boys and Girls Club and The Western Union Preservation Society.

Tonna Denny had the winning raffle ticket to escort Mayor Morgan off the plank, who was a major “splash-hit” with his cannonball. Not to be out done, Dagwood scored a 10 with the crowd with his pencil dive and Evalena leaped off the plank.

Our local Bone Island Buccaneer’s read articles of piracy, performed songs and entertained the crowd.

Nationally renowned Biscuit Miller and the Mix kept everyone in happy feet.
