The Schooner Wharf Bar is the place to be
for the 9th Annual Open Air Art & Music Affair on Saturday, March 7.
Artists� and artisans� wares are to be available from 10 a.m. until
sunset, with music continuing well into the night.
This admission-free event features the work of Key West Artists, creations
as unique and varied as the islanders themselves. Surrounding the Schooner
Wharf, at the Historic Seaport, booths are set up, offering paintings,
sculpture, ceramics, jewelry, clothing, woodwork, stained glass, leather,
photography, found objects and even palm fronds, and coconuts, all
creations of the talented people working in Key West. |

A wonderful showcase for
emerging artists and recognized masters, unique arts and crafts abound.
Chose from whimsical to functional, ranging from fine art paintings to
one-of-a-kind craft items.
From the monument plaza at Elizabeth and Greene, the festival
follows the Lazy Way Lane along the Historic Seaport, towards the tall
ships at the Schooner Wharf, and spilling around the corner onto William
Street. |
Enjoy personal demonstrations of
techniques by some of the artists working on site. Internationally renown
potter, Jay Gogin will be spinning clay, Dwight Kalb will be painting the
scene with his oils, and there will also be a glass blowing demonstration
among others
Returning artists and artisans include wood workers Thomas Avery, and
Isaias Mendoza, painters Katie Hobbs, Dwight Kalb, and Rick Burnette, Kate
Peachy, jewelers Suzanne Buxton, Bethy, Joyce Straiton, and Peggy Taylor,
and fabric artists Joanne Jarzombek, Debra Nolan, and Sharona. |
New this season, among
others, are the mixed media sculpture of Thomas Bowker, ceramics from
Chelsy Snell, and paintings by Bill Welch.
The Schooner Wharf Bar awards a cash prize of $200 for the Best Depiction
of the bar to a visual artist, last year�s winner was Kathryn Leonard and
the $100 People�s Choice went to Dwight Kalb.
On the stage, fourteen solid hours of live
music kicks off at ten in the morning, with singer/raconteur Michael
McCloud, backed by Professor Pete, and Capt. Carl. |

From 1 to 4, the
Doerfels entertain
with acoustic instruments. This twelve-member ensemble earned the
title, 2008 Florida State Bluegrass Champions, despite ranging in age
from 12 to 19. The band�s material runs the gamut, from country,
gospel, bluegrass, jazz and blues to classical.
Michael McCloud and
Friends pick up the
tempo again for happy hour, reprising hits penned by this thirty-five
year stalwart of the Key West music scene.
The Jeff Prine Band, featuring south
Florida legend �Bonefish Johnny,� takes the stage from six thirty
until after midnight. Funky guitar and bluesy vocals are the
trademarks of the band�s definitive �Shack Music� sound. |

Not only is the
festival a rollicking good time, it is a fantastic opportunity to meet
renowned artists in a casual atmosphere, and purchase a distinctive piece
of art.
