SCHOONER WHARFS MEL FISHER CELEBRATION
RAISES $8,000 FOR CHARITY
The 11th annual Mel Fisher Celebration, a
tribute to Mel and Deos continual quest to fulfill their dream, was held
at Schooner Wharf last Thursday. The nights festivities celebrate the day
24 years ago when Mels crews found $400 million in shipwrecked gold,
silver and emeralds that had been sitting on the ocean floor for more than
300 years.
The Lifetime Achievement Award was given posthumously to Deo Fisher.
Events also included the Miss Atocha Bikini Contest; 50/50 Raffle and many
other raffle prizes; a chance to win an Atocha coin buried in a cupcake,
which went to lucky winner Carol Clark; and a raffle to win a trip to the
wreck site with Sean Fisher.
All together, $8,000 was tallied for the Mel Fisher Maritime Heritage
Society, and will fund exhibitions as well as public programs including
summer camp and other community events.
Marisa Kane for the second time took home the Miss Atocha title and an
Atocha silver coin by raising the most money for the charity in the bikini
show. Second place winner Elizabeth Isaacs took home a Madagascar Emerald,
and Amy Clark, third place winner, won a Madagascar emerald pearl.

Todays the Day To Celebrate Mel!!!
GOLD
DIGGERS AND DREAMERS ALWAYS WELCOME
...to celebrate the life and times of the man who was both.
Golden dreams, precious memories and a healthy dose of mischief mark the
annual Mel Fisher Days Kick-Off Party on July 16 at Schooner Wharf Bar.
The event honors the late and legendary treasure hunter who, in 1985,
found $400 million in treasure from the Spanish galleon Nuestra Senora de
Atocha.
The party starts at 6 p.m., with live music and more than $5,800 to be
given away in Spanish treasure coins, pearls and emeralds.
A Lifetime Achievement Award will honor Deo Fisher, Mels wife, business
partner and beloved matriarch of the Fisher family.
Those
who knew Mel will share stories of the worlds greatest treasure hunt, and
those who would appeal to Mels fondness for young women may honor him by
participating in the Miss Atocha Bikini Contest and fundraiser.
Bikinis may be handmade or store-bought. Participants will be raising
money for the Mel Fisher Maritime Heritage Society, benefiting exhibitions
as well as public programs including summer camp and other community
events. Winners will receive an $1,800 silver coin, $1,000 emerald or a
$500 pearl.
Contestants may start raising money as soon as they are officially
registered in the contest.
The festivities include the crowd favorite Have Your Cupcake and Eat It
Too land based treasure hunt, which gives you the chance to sink your
teeth into a $1,800 Atocha silver coin. An additional treasure up for
raffle this year is a $650 Margarita pearl.
Enjoy sharing the stories of a man like no other, with his family and
friends, along with drink specials and many other activities.
