17th Annual Schooner Wharf Battle of the Bars Results

The 2010 17th Annual Schooner Wharf Battle of the Bars raised $23,870 for local charities Key West Wildlife Center and The Sister Season Fund. The overall total is now $215,528 during the Battle�s history.

�The Key West Wildlife Center is SO thankful to Schooner Wharf and all of the very generous people of Key West,� said Michelle Anderson, Director. �It was an amazing event and great to see everyone having such a blast for two very worthy causes. Thanks to all the charitable folks of Key West, the wildlife center will be able to purchase a much needed x-ray machine, which will help us diagnose and treat bone injuries. We�re grinning from ear to ear with gratitude and promise to make every cent count towards the care of our wild bird and chicken friends.�
Barbara Ramey, Vice President of The Sister Season Fund said, �It was a very enthusiastic event. We were thrilled to be a part of this and we�re extremely excited. The money raised will be used for rental and utility assistance for people in the food, beverage, and tourism industry who need it through no fault of their own. We are very grateful for this event that�s been benefiting Key West charities for 17 years now.�

Half Shell Raw Bar's "Raw Bar Rowdies" again captured first place.
Thirty-nine teams from Keys bars and restaurants were pumped up to win and waged a fierce competition. Excitement was high as the 7-person teams ran the obstacle course � poured and served a margarita, recycled bottles, rolled and tapped a keg, and drank beer.
For the fifth time, Team �Raw Bar Rowdies� from Half Shell took home the championship title, along with a trophy and bragging rights, with a final round time of 1 minute, 52 seconds. Team �Coral Reefers� from Margaritaville captured second place, and third place went to Dante�s �Los Diablos�.

The coveted Most Outrageous Team Costume award for the fourth year in a row went to Sebago Watersports with their �Southernmost Circus and Sideshow Freaks�; second place went to TGIFriday�s �Team Awesome�. Two Honorable Mentions for Costume were awarded to Southernmost Beach Caf�s Team �Southernmost Beekinis� and to Hard Rock Caf�s �YMCAints�.

Bill LaRose (Cowboy Bill's) and Bill Lay (Irish Kevin's) shared the Deepest Pockets award.
The Deepest Pockets award again was shared between Cowboy Bill�s, who entered two teams � �Bill�s Bootleggers� and �Reloaded Renegades� -- and Irish Kevin�s �Dropkick Mayhem�. The teams raised a combined total of $7,425. Irish Kevin�s have been winners of Deepest Pockets for four years; Cowboy Bill�s for three. They donated their trophies to the Green Parrot in honor of Jim Bean, who died on Saturday.

�Everyone was extremely generous, all in the spirit of giving to two great causes,� said Evalena Worthington, event organizer. �The energy level and excitement to win the bragging rights were amazing. All the teams as well as the spectators were extremely giving, and the creative costumes made it an even more fun and festive day.�
