SCHOONER WHARFS MEL FISHER CELEBRATION
RAISES $5,500 FOR CHARITY

The 12th annual Mel Fisher Celebration, a tribute to Mel and Deos continual quest to fulfill their dream was held at Schooner Wharf last Thursday. The nights festivities celebrated the day 25 years ago when Mels crews found $400 million in shipwrecked gold, silver and emeralds that had been sitting on the ocean floor for more than 300 years.

The Lifetime Achievement Award was given to Carl Fismer, whos been a treasure salvager for 40 years. Events also included the Miss Atocha Bikini Contest; 50/50 Raffle and many other raffle prizes; and a chance to win an Atocha coin buried in a cupcake.

All together, $5,500 was tallied for the Mel Fisher Maritime Heritage Society, and will fund exhibitions as well as public programs including summer camp and other community events.

Becky Rios took home the Miss Atocha title and an $1,800 Atocha silver coin by raising the most money for the charity in the bikini show.
