KNOT & SHOT CONTEST
Get "Tied Up" at Schooner Wharf Bar Every Day During Race Week!!!

Key West wouldn't be Key West without sailors and Schooner Wharf Bar, and sailors wouldn't be sailors without rum and ropes.

Watch what happens when all four of them combine on the docks at Schooner Wharf Bar every night at 8:00 p.m. during the yacht races.

Nightly from Jan. 16 through Jan. 22, sailors and any interested challengers will frustrate themselves and entertain the crowd as they race to tie a bowline and lasso a piling. But add a shot of Mt. Gay Rum and a Heineken to the contest and a good time is inevitable.

Entrants stand in front of an ice luge and swallow an icy shot of Mt. Gay that is poured from the top. They then have to tie a bowline and use it to lasso a piling that is on wheels, several feet away. The sailor then pulls the piling to him or her and picks up a cold Heineken beer, that is sitting on the base of the piling.

They then drink the beer and turn the supposedly empty bottle upside down on their head.
During a week of heated race competition, Knot & Shot is a fun and good natured race against the clock and other sailors.

Prizes will be given for the best times, and winners can receive deck shoes from Harken by Saucony, gifts from West Marine, a case of Heineken, Mumm's champagne and plenty of Mount Gay Rum.

Spectators can enjoy the chance to share stories and drinks with the yacht racers, who have come from all over the country for race week. Don't miss the chance to stroll along the docks and get an up-close peek at one of the racing fleets, which will be docked at the Schooner Wharf all week.

COME GET TIED UP!

CRUCIAL INFORMATION

During Yachting Race Week, Jan. 16th - Jan. 22nd, Schooner Wharf Bar is hosting the annual "KNOT & SHOT CONTEST". Racers and the public are welcome. This fun event involves two traditional sailor things, DRINKING & TYING KNOTS.

Here's how it works...A big block of ice is set up like a luge. There will be a slide or track carved in the block of ice. The bartender pours a Mount Gay Shooter down the track and the contestant is at the bottom of the track and drinks the shot. The contestant is then given a rope and has to tie a bowline knot and then lasso a piling that is on wheels. It will be 10 feet away. At the base of the piling there will be a bottle of Heineken beer. The contestant pulls over the Heineken beer, drinks it, and then turns the bottle upside down on their head. The winner is the one who completes the Mount Gay Shooter, the Knot, and brings in the Heineken beer in the shortest time.
It's a lot of fun to watch, even if you don't want to compete.

The "KNOT & SHOT" COMPETITION will be @ 8:00 each night during the Yachting Race Week. It doesn't cost anything to enter. There will be great prizes, such as Heineken beer, Harken by Saucony Deck Shoes, Gifts from West Marine, bottles of Mumm's Champagne, Schooner Wharf Tee Shirts, Mount Gay Tee Shirts, Schooner Wharf bar tabs, and other great prizes.

This is co-sponsored by: Heineken Beer, Mount Gay Rum, Harken by Saucony Deck Shoes, West Marine, Mumm's Champagne and
