SCHOONER WHARFS MEL FISHER DAYS KICK-OFF PARTY
RAISES $9,000 FOR CHARITY

The 13th annual Mel Fisher Celebration, a tribute to Mel and Deos continual quest to fulfill their dream, was held at Schooner Wharf last Thursday. The nights festivities celebrated the day 26 years ago when Mels crews found $400 million in shipwrecked gold, silver and emeralds that had been sitting on the ocean floor for more than 300 years.

Events included the Miss Atocha Bikini Contest; 50/50 Raffle and silent auction; and a chance to win an Atocha coin buried in a cupcake.

All together, $9,000 was tallied for the Mel Fisher Maritime Heritage Society, and will fund exhibitions as well as public programs including summer camp and other community events.

Stephanie Kaple took home the Miss Atocha title and an $2,000 Madagascar Emerald by raising the most money for the charity in the bikini show.

SCHOONER WHARFS MEL FISHER CELEBRATION
Todays the Day To Celebrate Mel!!! Thursday, July 14th at 6:00 p.m.

The golden dream of treasure hunter Mel Fisher is alive and well and still celebrated in Key West every July.

The Kick-Off Party for Mel Fisher Days will take place Thursday, July 14th starting at 6:00 p.m. Come celebrate the day 26 years ago when Mels crews found $400 million in shipwrecked gold, silver and emeralds that had been sitting on the ocean floor for more than 300 years. The events combine stories of the hunt for the Spanish galleon Atocha, memories of the man, and a few of his favorite activities.

Throughout the night, more than $5,000 in Spanish Treasure Coins, Emeralds and CASH will be given away and live music is by C. W. Colt, the Caribbean Country Blues Master.

Anyone who remembers Mel remembers his fondness for beautiful women in minimal clothing. So the Miss Atocha Bikini Contest will be held in honor of the man who would most appreciate it. Start playing with sea treasures, masking tape, coins, jewels, or whatever creativity will cover part of you. Or dig out your favorite suit to sport down the catwalk. Participants in home made as well as store bought bikinis are eligible to compete this year. Celebration sponsor, ConchRepublicBikinis.com has a great selection to choose from.

The contestant raising the most money for the non-profit Mel Fisher Maritime Heritage Society will win a $200 cash and a $2,000 Madagascar Emerald from the shipwreck of the Spanish galleon Atocha.
Second place will take home $100 cash and $1,000 Madagascar Emerald and the third place fundraiser will be awarded $50 cash and a $500 Madagascar Emerald. Both are authentic emeralds in the rough.

Contestants may start raising money as soon as they are officially registered in the contest.

All monies raised benefit the non-profit Mel Fisher Maritime Heritage Society.
Those who knew Mel will share stories of the worlds greatest treasure hunt, and those who would appeal to Mels fondness for young women may honor him by participating in the Miss Atocha Bikini Contest and fundraiser.

The festivities include the crowd favorite Have Your Cupcake and Eat It Too land based treasure hunt, which gives you the chance to sink your teeth into a $1,200 Atocha silver coin.

New this year will be a silent auction with a variety of items to bid on, including water adventures, restaurant gift certificates, coins, jewelry and more!

As Mel always said of Schooner Wharf Bar, This place is a Treasure, so come enjoy the evening at Mels favorite watering hole with the Fisher family, and treasure your own memories.
