January 2022 Wrecker's Cup Race Results
The first race of the much-anticipated Schooner Wharf Bar Wrecker’s Cup
Race Series was held on Sunday, January 30th. The shrimping fleet, who
were hunkered down in near shore waters to shelter from the January 29th
high winds escorted our Wreckers fleet at race start for the first time in
37 years! Race conditions were a 1-2 foot chop with winds blowing 13 knots
out of the NNE and plenty of sunshine! Seamanship included sails wing on
wing, colorful spinnakers and and calculated wind stealing to slow down
the competition.

It was a determined and fearless fleet of 30 local and visiting yachtsman
who met the challenge Sunday, February 27th in the second race of the
popular Schooner Wharf Wreckers Cup Race Series. Race conditions were not
exactly encouraging at race start with fog, rain as well as changing and
diminishing winds, 3 knots gusting to 4 knots by midcourse.
It took a lot of strategy and seamanship to “drift in” to the finish line,
10 vessels accomplished the feat and completed the course. Due to the
difficult sailing conditions, the committee boat ended up bringing the
finish line to the remaining fleet that stood steady in their course!
The regatta participants enjoyed sighting not only the finish line but a
pretty color sea, Atlantic bottle nose dolphins and sea turtles were also
spotted.
Next race day is Sunday, March 27th. For more information, please visit
